Born in Willingboro, New Jersey, Irving Steinberg grew up in San Francisco, California and started studying the double bass in the public school system. He received his bachelor's degree in music from the University of California at Berkeley and his master of music degree from Boston University. Mr. Steinberg is currently a freelance musician. His teachers include Charles Siani, Brian Marcus, Edwin Barker, George Neikrug, Todd Seeber, and Jim Orleans. As well as teaching in the Greater Boston and New England region, he has also performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops Orchestra, Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Handel and Haydn Society Orchestra, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Boston Classical Orchestra, New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra, Back Bay Chorale, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Portland Opera Repertory Theater, Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Springfield Symphony Orchestra (Acting Principal and Assistant Principal), Emmanuel Music, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Ballet, Alea III., Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, Portland Symphony Orchestra, Albany Symphony Orchestra, New England String Ensemble, Cape Symphony Orchestra (Principal), Indian Hill Symphony, and the Nashua Symphony Orchestra (Principal). Twice a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center ('97 - '98), he has also participated in the 11th New Music Festival Sound Ways, in St. Petersburg, Russia ('99), New Hampshire Music Festival ('99 2000), Spoleto Festival USA ('95 - '98, 2000), Hot Springs Music Festival ('97), Opera North ('96), Festival Dei Due Mondi, Spoleto, Italy ('95), Aspen Music Festival ('87), and the Hidden Valley Music Camp ('85).
